Holiday Greetings from Dr. Hicks
Updated: Nov 19
Dear First Baptist Family:
I bring you greetings with the Love of the Lord!
This time of great challenge in the world has caused our separation, yet I write to share with you my genuine appreciation, encouragement and hope. First Baptist, you have shown yourself to be a strong congregation displaying agility and the ability to move with the times to do the ministry God has called us to do. YOU continue to ensure that our ministries reach and support both members and the First Baptist Community as well.
We do not know when science and the Spirit will allow us to return to worship in the sanctuary, but I am certain that God will sustain us and even grow us in this new virtual space. Please make sure you attend worship every Sunday Morning - still offered at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. and Sunday School at 10 a.m. Join us for our Watch Party at 10:45 a.m. every Sunday on Zoom. Please visit our new website at FirstBaptistNorth.Org, and enlist and subscribe to our YouTube Channel and Facebook pages to receive automatic notification when we start streaming. Share and start watch parties of your own as we worship in different ways a God who still deserves all of our praise.
Our ministries continue to work and our classes are meeting. It has been our task to continue the standard services of First Baptist while responding to new emerging needs in real time. We are doing more ministry and missions than ever before. “New Frontier” missionaries are training and working to ensure seniors and the most vulnerable are not isolated during this time of social separation. We are concerned about the long-term physical and mental effects of Covid-19 and we are still planning, advocating and in some instances fighting for both physical and mental health services, to be made available in our community for many who cannot easily fight for themselves.
We challenge every member to share with others the great things that are going on at your church, so we may continue to grow and remain vibrant and impactful in the community God has blessed us to serve for 135 years. Make sure you are reaching out and having conversations with members of your church family consistently while we are apart from one another. Continue to bear one another's infirmities and lift each other in prayer.
Please call and email us in the church office if you have specific needs or require help accessing our classes and services at (317) 925-2672 and FirstBaptistIndy@gmail.com. Our office is still open during our regular business hours and I remain available via the same cell phone number that has been on the back of our bulletin for over 20 years. Please help me thank our Deacons and other leaders who help us maintain excellence in ministry. Please continue to pray for me and our family as we miss our rich fellowship dearly.
We will be serving an enhanced Mozel Sanders meal on Thanksgiving Day. Our Christmas Concert will be virtual - and is scheduled to take place on December 20th at 6:00 PM. Let’s plan to wear festive clothes or even ugly sweaters and join on Zoom for a Watch Party! We are planning a Watch Night fellowship event as well. Please stay faithful in your giving, creative and resolved in your Christian walk as we seek to glorify God through work and service, called for in the times in which we live. I will keep you in my prayers and remain faithful to this call as I solicit your prayers, that God might continue to guide me and us in our quest for inspired impact through the ministries of our church.
It is in the expectant spirit of Advent that I remain sincerely yours...
Dr. Ivan Douglas Hicks
